Bill has an extensive background in financial research and the law. Before founding Sigma in 1992, he practiced corporate and securities law with Stoel Rives, then created the first research department for a local venture investment banking firm. Bill earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Stanford University and a law degree cum laude from Harvard Law School. Bill has been a member of the CFA Society of Portland since 1986 and serves on the investment committees of OHSU Foundation and Oregon Community Foundation and on the board of St. Mary’s Academy. Bill’s favorite book is Sometimes a Great Notion by Ken Kesey.

Before joining Sigma in 1995, John was a portfolio manager with the investment arm of U.S. Bank and lead investment officer for U.S. Bank’s Private Asset Management Group. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees with honors in music from The Juilliard School and attended Oregon State University. He is a past president of the CFA® Society of Portland and currently serves on the boards of St. Mary’s Home for Boys, Bravo Youth Orchestra and Portland Youth Philharmonic. John’s favorite music is Symphony No. 6 in A minor by Gustav Mahler.

Jim has worked as a controller for a parking management company, chief financial officer for a hedge fund, staff accountant with a major national accounting firm and a nuclear engineer. He has been with Sigma since 2006. A licensed CPA, he holds a post-baccalaureate certificate in accounting from Portland State University and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Oregon State University. Suzanne brings deep experience in strategic organizational development, management and operations to Sigma. She joined the firm in March 2015 after serving as founding executive director of College Possible Portland, spearheading organizational growth and building partner relationships. She earned her bachelor’s degree and master’s of health administration from Tulane University. She serves on the boards of the Portland Art Museum, Oregon Symphony and College Possible Portland along with the marketing committee of Youth, Rights & Justice. Suzanne’s favorite book is The Complete Stories by Flannery O’Connor.

With more than 24 years of experience in financial services, Jeanette joined Sigma in March 2015. She is responsible for evaluating and monitoring information systems to improve operational efficiency, meet Sigma’s high standards for security and compliance, and ensure business continuity planning. Previously she held technology and systems administrative roles at a wealth management firm that is now CTC Consulting and CTC|myCFO. She received a bachelor’s degree in business from Oregon State University. Jeanette’s favorite book is, April 1865: The Month That Saved America by Jay Winik.

Cheryl joined Sigma in 1997. Previously, she was a performance analyst with the investment arm of U.S. Bank, where she was responsible for calculating assets under management, mutual fund returns, commingled fund and separate account assets for U.S. Bank’s Trust Division. She has more than 25 years experience in financial services and is responsible for Sigma’s portfolio management system and maintaining data integrity. Cheryl’s favorite book is Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.

An expert in pension and retirement plans, Mike writes a quarterly report on the investment markets that is distributed to some of the nation’s largest pension and 401(k) plans. Before joining Sigma in 2000, he developed software products for the pension and investment industry. He maintains an active independent consulting practice. Mike holds a doctorate in applied mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a former Henry Luce Scholar and taught portfolio management at Oregon Graduate Institute. Mike’s favorite movie is Akira Kurosawa’s 我が 青春 に 悔いなし, translated into English as “No Regrets for Our Youth”.

Before joining Sigma in 2005, Harmon was a senior vice president for Columbia Management Group, establishing and managing its Private Wealth Services division. Previously he helped create a private asset management program for Fidelity Investments in San Francisco and managed a fee-based financial planning firm. Harmon earned a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University. He serves on the boards of Ethos and Terwilliger Plaza Foundation; the advisory board of the MIKE Program; and advisory committee of Oregon Community Foundation. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and his favorite place to visit is the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.

Tim practiced law before joining Sigma in 2009 and continues to maintain a limited law practice in Montana, focusing on estate planning and trust litigation. He successfully prosecuted a large plaintiff’s case concerning the prudent investor rule. Previously he was in private business and practiced corporate and transactional law for Stoel Rives. He received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Stanford University and a law degree from the University of Oregon. Tim’s favorite movie is Lonesome Dove.
